Career Plans

The career I'm interested in is a film editor.

The reason I thought of this career field is because I decided to take a Digital Filmmaking class my freshman year in high school and was very interested in and intrigued with the editing aspect of the class.

I believe that in this career field, I will be reviewing footage and finding ways or following instructions that would make the footage look more presentable and interesting. I believe that I will be enhancing footage and possibly even enhancing just plain images to make a film or a video better as a whole.

For the film editor occupation, you must generally have experience with editing and certain editing softwares. Also, a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Filmmaking would also generally be good for the occupation. To be successful in film editing, you must be able to pay attention to detail, be able to follow directions, and have a sense of creativity.

I believe that I am qualified for this occupation because I have a passion for it and I have been involved with Digital Filmmaking for about 3 years as a junior in high school. I already have experience with editing outside of school, I believe I have all the qualities it takes to prosper in this career. I am dedicated to succeed and I am very serious about this career choice.

To gain further experience in this career field, I can not only continue my participation in the Titan Media club at school, but also volunteer to edit anything and everything, whether for pay or no pay. Surprisingly, there are many opportunities for someone like me, who is not a professional, but can create professional work given the correct tools.

From researching on the internet, I found that there are few job opportunities for my career choice. However, as long as you have resources, networks, and a good amount of experience, it is much more than possible to get a job in film editing.

Don't Text and Drive PSA Poster

My topic was about not texting and driving. I learned that texting and driving can not only distract a driver, but it can also risk the chance of someone being injured, or even dying. Getting into an accident while texting and driving can happen to anyone, even those who believe it cannot happen to them. Looking at other people's stories, I have also learned that no text message is worth risking your life or another's life.
The interesting facts I learned from this website was that those who text and drive are 23 times more likely to have a car crash. I also learned that texting while driving is one of the top causes of death among teenagers in America; more than 3,000 teens die annually due to texting while driving. Texting while driving is still above drinking and driving among teens on the list of the top causes of death because the fact is, most teenagers are not drinking 24/7, but they are on their phones constantly, even when driving.
My rough sketches and ideas are here.

My finished PSA informs and educates the viewer by attempting to make viewers realize that accidents caused by texting and driving can happen to anyone, even the viewers themselves. The PSA also offers viewers a view of a phone with text messages before an accident occurred due to texting and driving. The driver's text back states "I'm fine. Don't worry," but the text was never delivered because the driver gets into an accident.

Fair use is the exception to copyright, as long as your use qualifies as fair use. For your purpose to qualify, it must be along the lines of commenting upon, criticizing or creating a parody of a copyrighted work. As previously said, an example for fair use would be to criticize a piece of work, copying it even though it is copyrighted.
In 2012, New York street artist Shepard Fairey, who created the iconic Obama "hope" posters, was sentenced to two years probation due to tampering with evidence. Fairey claimed to use a photo of Obama with George Clooney for the famous poster, when he actually used a close up of the president. He destroyed both photos to cover his lie and created false documents. Fairey and The Associated Press  settled the law suit in 2011 for $1.6 million.
Public Domain consists of works that are not available for copyright. After copyrights expire, works enter into the public domain. Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that allows people to share and use creativity and knowledge through free legal tools. Color Psychology

In the color psychology article, the author states that the psychology of color is based upon the idea that colors effect the emotions of people in all aspects of their lives. The things that surround us have the ability to influence our emotions. Marketers and advertisers take advantage of the fact that colors influence emotions and mental/physical states. Colors in advertisements are constantly being used to make people hungry, encourage trust, create positive or negative connotations, and many other feelings and emotions. Not only can certain colors result in different meanings, but also different tones and shades. The article reference can be found here: Color Psychology: The Emotional Effects of Color
"The Language of Adveritsing" by Peter Sells and Sierra Gonzalez from Stanford University found here, demonstrates the color choices advertisers make in order to make their advertisements more aesthetically pleasing to consumers. This article gives readers a variety of different colors with an explanation of what the color can represent as well as what the personality of one may be based on their favorite color.

Dream Destination Getaway

Hawaii is a dream destination for me because I love tropical weather, beaches, and Hawaiian food. I would much rather prefer to soak in the warmth of the sun, rather than freeze in the cold. I also love the idea of having the ability to visit the beaches everywhere on the island of Hawaii. Hawaii also has delicious food that is great to eat while sitting on the beach, soaking in the sun.

The official website for more information on this location can be found at http://www.gohawaii.com. This website offers viewers both the idea of Hawaii in general and ideas of what specific islands in Hawaii are like.

I imagine visiting this location and my experiences being like the image I illustrated below with me swimming with dolphins at sunset.
